Clear Skin Routine Wins!
Starting Accutane can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to caring for your skin. After 7 months on this journey, I've found a simple, gentle routine that really soothes and heals without causing more irritation.
Here's what helped me keep my skin calm and clear throughout!
1. No Actives
My doctor advised avoiding harsh ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, and vitamin C to prevent extra irritation.
2. Fragrance & Irritant-Free
Keeping products simple to reduce sensitivity was key.
3. Focus On Barrier Repair
I chose ingredients like ceramides and peptides to help restore my skin's barrier.
4. Keep It Simple
My daily routine became cleanser > moisturizer > SPF. Nothing complicated.
Cleanser
I switched to gentle, non-foaming cleansers like Vanicream Gentle Face Wash and AHC Niacin Cleanser. No stripping or irritation.
Moisturizer
My skin felt dry early on, so I used Illyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream sparingly. For daytime, I preferred lighter emulsion formulas like Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Emulsion to layer under sunscreen without heaviness.
SPF
Wearing SPF daily was essential due to Accutane's sun sensitivity. I chose creamy sunscreens like SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water Sun Serum and Torriden Dive-In Watery Moisture Sunscreen — both gentle and hydrating.
Makeup
I avoided foundation completely. Instead, I used tinted sunscreens for light coverage. I recommend Elf Whoa Glow or Supergoop Glow Screen over products that cling to dry patches.
If you're starting Accutane, be patient, protect your skin barrier, and stay consistent. Results take time but come!
