Microwave Mug Cake
Ever have that moment at night when you're craving cake so bad, but there's no energy to bake or clean up?
Yeah, same. That's why I swear by this microwave mug cake recipe—it's fast, easy, and totally hits the spot. No oven, no mixer, no waiting around. Just a mug, a spoon, and a microwave. Boom, cake in 3 minutes!
What you'll need
You probably already have these in your kitchen right now:
• 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1/4 tsp baking powder
• A tiny pinch of salt
• 3 tbsp milk
• 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter)
• 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
• Optional: a few chocolate chips, nuts, or a spoon of peanut butter on top.
Let's whip it up
Step 1: Grab a microwave-safe mug (around 300ml is perfect).
Step 2: Add all the dry ingredients—flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir with a spoon.
Step 3: Add milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. No dry spots, okay?
Step 4: Toss in a few chocolate chips or whatever toppings you're in the mood for. I love adding peanut butter right in the middle—chef's kiss.
Microwave magic
Pop the mug into your microwave and cook on high for 1 minute and 20 seconds to 1 minute and 40 seconds, depending on your microwave power. Watch it rise like magic! Don't overcook it, or it'll turn rubbery. The top should look set but still soft and moist inside.
Ready in a flash
Careful—it's hot! Let it cool for a minute or two (if you can wait). Eat it straight from the mug with a spoon. It's warm, fluffy, chocolatey, and perfect for cozy nights or when you just want dessert now.
My personal tip
Sometimes I add a scoop of ice cream on top or drizzle with some honey if I want to be a little fancy. It tastes like cake heaven. Also, this recipe is perfect when you're low on ingredients or just don't want to make a whole cake.
