Setting Spray Showdown
Hey Lykkers! I never thought I’d be the type of person to have opinions about setting spray… but after a few hot, sweaty days where my makeup literally betrayed me, I started paying attention. And once I did, I realized there’s actually a big difference between high-end and drugstore ones—not just in price, but in how they behave on my face throughout the day.
I’ve been switching between two lately, and this is how they’ve been showing up in my real routine.
High End – ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray ($32)
My Rating: 10/10 (strictly for hold and longevity)
Okay, this one feels like my “serious makeup days only” product. The first time I used it, I remember thinking, “oh… this is not playing around.” My makeup just stayed exactly where I placed it. No sliding, no weird patchiness, no fading around my nose by midday. Even on really hot days, it kept everything looking surprisingly put together.
What I like most is that it gives me that matte, locked-in finish without me needing to touch up constantly. It kind of removes the stress of checking my face every hour. BUT the scent is strong. Like, I literally pause for a second before spraying it because it’s that noticeable. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely something I can’t ignore. Still, performance-wise? It’s the one I trust when I want my makeup to survive the day.
Drugstore – Makeup Revolution Superfix Super Hold Spray ($15)
My Rating: 8/10
This one feels more like my everyday, “I just want my makeup to behave normally” spray. When I use it, my makeup still looks good and stays in place decently well. It gives me that matte finish, and for normal days—like going out for a few hours or doing light activities—it honestly does the job.
One thing I did notice is that my skin feels a little drier once it sets. Not uncomfortably dry—just slightly tight, as if everything has been held in place a bit too firmly. And on especially long days or when I'm sweating more than usual, I can tell my makeup doesn't stay quite as bulletproof as it does with the ONE/SIZE setting spray. It still holds up well—just not with the same level of confidence.
Using both made me realize something simple: I don’t always need “perfect hold,” but I do want reliability when it matters. ONE/SIZE is like my “I need my makeup to survive anything” spray. It feels intense, but it delivers. Makeup Revolution is more like my easygoing backup—it won’t fail me, but it won’t fully protect me either. Now I kind of choose based on my day instead of just grabbing whatever is closest on my table… which honestly feels like a small glow-up in my routine.
